Keep Changing the Tags

"Triage" is one of my favorite stories that summarizes the importance of relationships in youth ministry. It occurred during World War II. Triage was the policy by which doctors color-tagged the wounded indicating the degree of medical assistance they would be given. Red tags were placed on men who appeared to be hopeless; blue tags indicated a soldier would survive only if medical attention was given immediately; and a yellow tag meant a wounded soldier would survive even without rapid treatment. A soldier named Lou was brought in for medical review and quickly tagged with a red tag, indicating the hopeless manner of his condition. "After all," the doctor said, "his legs are so badly blown apart that life would be excruciating." But a nearby nurse, noticing that Lou was still conscious, began to talk softly with him so he would not face death alone. The moments of conversation spanned to an hour. Finally, because of the relationship that had been built between the two of them, the nurse simply could not allow Lou to die. What did she do? She replaced his red tag with a blue one, making possible the medical assistance that saved his life.

What is our calling in youth ministry? Part of it is powerfully pictured in this story. The Master Youth Pastor calls us not just to preach sermons, but to live them…in the context of close relationships with our kids. And as we see countless ones who are mortally wounded by the enemy's attacks, we have the privilege of making Christ's love real and life changing. What is relational youth ministry? It is the call to keep changing the tags one person at a time. There are lots of red-tagged teenagers. Christ's love through your life may be the only thing that truly changes the color.

Cemetery visitation

Last saturday, we had a very special cell group meeting at a special place.
At first,Peh Han did not tell us where we are heading to.
We took MRT from east to the west until we saw a cemetry when we are in the bus.
Peh Han took us by surprise by stoping at the stop where the cemetry was.We were quite shock actually.

Peh Han told us to take a look at the tomb stones. We realise that the tombstones are all with carved words such as, "remembered by families and friends" ,verses, and poems.

Later,we were called to gather beside the road.

"Is that what you want to be remembered for? Look, all this people have been remembered and loved by their families. Yet, what are they remembered for? They had lived their lifes with fun and laughter perhaps, but at the last breath of life; they had just realise that they had just live their life with regrets. What have they archieve? Have they done the things that God wants them to archieve? God wants us to respond to our callings. When we die, what carved on the grave depends on us on our archievements.

Jeremy Zhang also spotted a man's tomb with carved words,"...May you be filled with mahjong games."

We bowed our heads and closed our eyes as he continued,

"Study so hard to get a cert and earning money for a house, or even playing mahjong to earn some money to get on with life till death?Do you think that that is what we are archieving in life? What is our purpose of living?"

Before we end this meeting, God's presence was felt in the place, not for the dead, but the one who are living for Him.

Jun Yong encouraged us to live a life with purpose and archieve what God has plan His perfect plan for us.

When we are about to leave the place, some of them saw a girl's tomb at the age of 13. Her tomb was decorated with many accessories and a windmill. She was beautiful but her life was short.

We never know when we will be there inside the hard wooden box.

Death, that's the end of life. But the thing is, what have we done in our life? Have we found our purposes before we went into that place of eternity?

What?

A prestigious university professor challenged his students with this question:

"Did God create everything that exists?"

A student bravely replied "yes, He did!"

"God created everything?" The professor asked.

"Yes sir," the student replied.
The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then God is evil.

"The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

"Of course," replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?

"The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat." Everybody or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat. The student continued. "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."Finally the young man asked the professor.

"Sir, does evil exist?"Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, evil is a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exists just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The student 's name --- Albert Einstein
